The Emmy Award-winning actress and “Abbott Elementary” star surprised fans when she strutted onto “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” rocking a stunning black, bedazzled dress—paired with a not-so-glamorous black sling on her arm.
Naturally, Stephen Colbert had to ask about her unexpected accessory.
“I’ve got to name the elephant in the room: What is the accessory you are wearing there?” Colbert asked.
Without missing a beat, Sheryl Lee Ralph responded, “Man, I was in a car accident!”
🗓️ What Happened To Sheryl Lee Ralph?
The accident happened on Monday, April 7, while she was en route to a speaking engagement.
She shared that the car went over a loading dock, nose first, in a terrifying moment that could’ve ended far worse.
But in true queen fashion, she stayed focused and kept it moving.
“The adrenaline kicked in so much… I showed up and it went so well,” she said, even revealing that she accepted an award from the MCC Theater in NYC that very night.
But the next day? Reality hit.
I woke up Tuesday feeling like I had done 12 rounds with Muhammad Ali.
Whew! We know that feeling all too well when the adrenaline wears off and your body checks you real quick.

Even with a minor injury, Sheryl Lee Ralph made it clear that nothing was going to stop her from fulfilling her commitments.
