Cherelle Griner has finally got the attention of President Joe Biden, and according to a press release detailing their phone call, President Biden has committed to getting Brittney Griner back on U.S. soil.
Just last week, Cherelle appeared on CNN in an exclusive interview where she called out President Biden and the U.S. government for their lack of involvement in Brittney’s case.
Brittney Griner wrote a letter to President Biden from the Russian prison she has been detained in since February 17 for allegedly having vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage.
Her letter was delivered to the White House on Monday morning (July 4).
The Griner family provided the following excerpts from her letter:
I’m terrified I might be here forever.
On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran.
It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.
It appears Brittney’s letter got the ball rolling. The White House released the press release below on Wednesday (July 6) detailing their call with Cherelle Griner.
