South Africa’s National Department of Correctional Services said in a statement that the parole made its decision, “having assessed Mr. Pistorius’ profile and other material submitted for the purposes of parole consideration,” and noted that he was a “first-time offender with a positive support system.”

The parole board also said the decision would not take effect until January 5, 2024.

During his 2014 trial, Oscar Pistorius, known as the “Blade Runner” for his carbon-fiber prosthetic legs, claimed he shot and killed Reeva through a locked bathroom door because he had mistaken her for an intruder.

No one bought what Oscar was selling and he was ultimately convicted of murder and sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison in 2017.

Oscar Pistorius is currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) as people react to the news of his parole.
