Lee Daniels is opening up about his complicated relationship with Jussie Smollett.
The director and Andra Day stopped by “The Breakfast Club” to promote his new Netflix film, The Deliverance, which premieres on August 30.
Lee Daniels cast Jussie Smollett as “Jamal Lyon” in his hit Fox series, “Empire,” but now says their relationship is “complicated.”
“It’s so complicated, guys. It’s so complicated. Life is so complicated. Life itself is complicated,” Daniels shared.
When asked about Jussie’s alleged hoax, Lee added, “That whole situation was complicated. And I still don’t know what to believe. Honestly. I don’t know what to believe. People say he didn’t do it…he did do it. God bless him on his journey.”
Lee Daniels did say he loves Jussie and would work with him again because he “was a son to me” and “also represented me.”
