Lance Gross took to social media on Thursday to share a heartfelt tribute to Irv Gotti.
According to a statement from his family, Irv passed away on Wednesday, February 5.
Lance, who worked with Irv on his BET series “Tales”, reflected on a moment when Irv gave him strength on set—the same day he received a devastating call from his mother informing him of his father’s passing.
His post read:
I’ll never forget this day on set. Not because of the work, but because it was the day my father passed away.
We paused filming when my mother called, frantic, telling me he didn’t have much time left.
She put the phone to his ear so he could hear my voice—so I could say whatever was in my heart.
When the call ended, I took a breath, steadied myself, and told the crew I was ready for the next take. “Let’s get it done.”
Then my phone rang again.
Production stopped for me once more. I answered, and this time, my mother was sobbing.
“Baby, he’s gone. He was waiting to hear your voice.”
I’m pretty sure Irv was giving me strength in this moment. I’ll always love him for that.
His energy was pure. He gave me an out that day—I didn’t have to stay, didn’t have to finish.
But I needed to. For my mental state. That’s what my pops would’ve wanted.
I hate that I’m writing this now because of your passing.
Irv, I appreciate everything you gave to the world, man. You will be truly missed. Give my pops a pound for me up there.
To your family—my deepest condolences. 🙏🏿🕊️
