R&B artist Kehlani recently found themselves in hot water on social media when court documents revealed they once called their daughter, Adeya Nomi, their “wife in a past life.”
The court document, linked to their ongoing custody case with their child’s father, Javaughn Young-White, quickly went viral, sparking outrage and confusion online.
In an emotional Instagram post, Kehlani explained that the comment came from a “past life” reading they had with an older woman and was never meant to be taken seriously.
They said they shared the reading with Javaughn in a lighthearted way, but those messages were later taken out of context and spread online, painting a disturbing picture.
Here’s what Kehlani had to say:
As a person that has always gotten little readings here and there, I was connected to an older woman for a “past life” reading.
I shared what I considered to be a lighthearted recap with my child’s father, laughing at it & considering it something light & not to be taken serious.
To have those screenshots then doctored, the rest of the messages left out, to make me seem like I consider myself to be in an inappropriate relationship with my DAUGHTER… is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever f**king heard.
I’ve been silent, I’ve taken the public beating. I’ve been addressing all of these things where I should, in COURT.
I’ve sat there and watched the public only have access to ONE SIDE of things.
But THIS is where I absolutely draw the line.
I do not, and have NEVER considered myself in any sort of inappropriate relationship with my child.
The rest is these monstrous allegations are being addressed in court. Thank you.

So kehlani said her daughter was her wife in a past life and the baby daddy said the daughter was the second coming of Christ— what in the religious psychosis is going on. 😭 pic.twitter.com/mbyDx77zzN

Kehlani was using Palestine as a cover up. I always felt like it was pandering and didn’t feel sincere. Playing with the dead comes at a cost. Their souls are tooo resilient to be represented by someone like that.

The Grammy-nominated “Blue Water Road” singer has been in the spotlight for their artistry and advocacy, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. However, the recent personal dispute has drawn attention away from Kehlani’s music, creating a challenging time for the R&B singer.
One thing is for certain…people will believe anything about Kehlani.
