When it comes to her son, Onyx, Iggy Azalea says she’s a single parent in every sense of the word.
The 34-year-old rapper shared insights into her relationship with her son, whom she welcomed in 2020 with her ex, Playboi Carti, during an appearance on Sony Music Entertainment’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast, hosted by “Modern Family” actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
“I’m very much a single mother. I’m very much the only parent, no disrespect, but yes, I am not co-parenting really, and that’s just the reality of it,” Iggy candidly revealed. “It’s one, it’s 24/7.”
During the podcast, Iggy Azalea expressed how motherhood has shifted her priorities, emphasizing her desire to be present in Onyx’s life.
“I no longer want to be traveling around everywhere. I want to take my son to school. I want him to have memories with me and give him that time,” she explained. “It’s really important to me.”
Reflecting on her own upbringing, Iggy attributed much of her success to her mother, who was always supportive and encouraging.
“I owe my success in large part to my mother because she spent so much time with me and she just really gassed me up and made me think I was a superwoman genius, dancer extraordinaire, painter extraordinaire, chef, whatever it was. And it’s important to me, even when my son’s only 4, that I know I’m there, instilling that confidence in him and just helping guide him.”
Iggy Azalea emphasized the importance of being an engaged and present parent.
“It’s my job as a parent. I think if you’re going to have a child, you should be prepared to do that and engage in that way. And I really want to. I toured two years with my son on a bus and it was time for that to end,” she said.
In April, Iggy celebrated Onyx’s birthday with a Bluey-themed pool party, sharing a carousel post on Instagram.
The first picture showed the rapper resting her head against her son as they sat outdoors.
Onyx was also seen sitting on a tiger float, wearing Bluey swimming trunks and goggles, while Iggy Azalea and her friends toasted to Onyx with cups featuring Bluey and her sister Bingo.
“Cheers to Onyx,” she captioned the post. “Happy Birthday Onyx, we love you.”
