Award-winning actress and singer Cynthia Erivo is set to take on the title role in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl this summer.
The highly anticipated production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary rock opera will run for three nights only, from August 1 to August 3.
This groundbreaking casting marks a full-circle moment for Erivo, who previously played Mary Magdalene in the 2020 all-female concept album “Jesus Christ Superstar: She Is Risen.”
As Jesus, she will now perform iconic songs like “Hosanna,” “The Last Supper,” and “Gethsemane.”
Hollywood Bowl’s Star-Studded Summer Season
Directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, with Stephen Oremus serving as musical director and conductor, the production is expected to be a must-see event. Additional casting details will be announced soon.
Erivo shared her excitement on Instagram, joking, “Just a little busy this summer. Can’t wait!”
The Hollywood Bowl’s summer lineup is packed with stellar performances.
Alongside “Jesus Christ Superstar,” audiences can look forward to Hugh Jackman headlining the venue’s opening night on June 7, performing songs from “The Greatest Showman” and “The Music Man.”
The concert also serves as a fundraiser for the LA Philharmonic’s music education programs.
Music lovers can also catch performances by John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, Josh Groban, Charlie Wilson, Rick Springfield, Diana Ross, and more.
