It’s with a heavy heart that I report Carl Weathers, the former football player who became a legendary actor in Hollywood, has died. 

He was 76.

According to a statement released on behalf of the family by his manager, Matt Luber, Carl transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday in his sleep at his Los Angeles residence. 

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers.

He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.

Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life.

Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations.

He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.

Over his illustrious 50-year acting career, Carl Weathers has accumulated more than 75 credits, showcasing his versatile talent.

Known for iconic roles in films like the first four Rocky films (as Apollo Creed), Predator, Happy Gilmore (as Chubbs Peterson), Action Jackson, and Toy Story 4 (as Combat Carl).

Beyond the silver screen, Carl Weathers has graced various TV shows, including “Street Justice,” “In the Heat of the Night,” “Arrested Development,” “Chicago Justice,” “Brothers,” and his recent standout performance in “The Mandalorian.”

My sincerest prayers and condolences to Carl Weathers’ family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
