Ashanti is glowing with pride as she introduces her newborn son to the world!
In a recent chat with “Entertainment Tonight,” the 43-year-old “Baby” singer shared the heartwarming details about her new bundle of joy, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, whom she welcomed last month with her husband, Nelly.

The name Kareem holds special significance, with Ashanti revealing that it was Nelly, 49, who chose it. “He was so proud and determined,” Ashanti shared.
“Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and Nelly thought it was a perfect way to honor him. It was all his idea, and it meant so much to me.”
Kareem’s name reflects qualities like generosity, kindness, and dignity—traits that are clearly important to both Ashanti and Nelly.
Ashanti also mentioned that her son arrived a bit earlier than expected, prompting Nelly to make a last-minute dash to be by her side.
“He made it just in time, which was incredible,” she said, describing the birth as an “amazing and spiritual experience.”
Reflecting on the moment she first saw her son’s face, Ashanti confessed, “I cried. It was so emotional and overwhelming, like a dream come true. I’ve always wanted this—marriage, children—and to have it with someone who was in my life years ago is surreal.”
She added with a laugh, “I never imagined I’d end up back with my ex from way back when, but it just feels right. The three of us together—it’s like everything clicked.”
As for baby Kareem’s looks, Ashanti said he initially resembled his father but is now turning into her little twin.
“He’s got my features now, but he definitely sleeps like his dad!”
The new mom also revealed she celebrated KK’s first month of life with three cakes, family, and friends.
“My son definitely dictates everything now, he is the priority overall and I don’t care what it will take, what I have to do, I’m just going to give everything and my all to my son,” she said.
“This little boy has my entire soul wrapped around his finger.”
