18-year-old basketball phenom Alijah Arenas, the pride of Chatsworth High and a top recruit heading to USC, is currently in a coma after being involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning in Reseda.
According to reports, Alijah was behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck when it lost control around 4:56 a.m. near Corbin Avenue and Blythe Street.
The vehicle struck a fire hydrant and then a tree.
He was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital.
LAPD confirmed he was stable, and thankfully, there’s no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
But the impact was still devastating.
A source close to the situation told The Times that Alijah was placed in a coma.
Just hours later, after the Cybertruck was towed from the scene, it burst into flames at a tow yard, prompting a hazardous materials response.
Alijah is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and reality TV personality Laura Govan.
Gilbert immediately canceled plans to stream a new episode of his show.
Laura took to Instagram and shared a message no parent ever wants to write, asking for “all your f**kin prayers.”
And right now, that’s what this family needs most—prayers, love, and support.
Alijah isn’t just a star athlete—he’s a young man with a bright future and a heart that’s inspired so many.
He made history at Chatsworth as the City Section’s all-time scoring leader with over 3,000 points.
He led his team to the CIF Division II state championship game and was recently featured in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
He turned down powerhouse programs like Arizona, Kansas, and Kentucky to play for USC and stay close to home.
He was set to be a key piece for the Trojans in the upcoming season.
USC hasn’t released a statement yet, as Alijah hasn’t officially enrolled, but the silence speaks volumes.
This is more than basketball—it’s about a young life hanging in the balance.
Please join me in sending all the love, strength, and healing energy to Alijah Arenas, his parents, Gilbert Arenas and Laura Govan, and everyone who loves him.
We’re all rooting for you, Alijah. 🙏🏽
