The Settlement That Ended A Pending Trial

Trey Songz has reached a confidential settlement to end a lawsuit that accused him of sexually assaulting a woman at a Miami nightclub on New Year’s Eve in 2018.

The R&B singer, born Tremaine Neverson, was facing assault and battery claims brought by Jauhara Jeffries, who alleged that he non-consensually penetrated her with his fingers while they were dancing at E11even Miami in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2018.

Songz has consistently denied the allegations.

The case was scheduled to head to trial next month, with E11even Miami also named in the lawsuit for allegedly serving alcohol to Songz despite a public history of substance abuse.

However, recent court filings reveal all parties have now agreed to a settlement.

Judge Antonio Arzola confirmed the resolution on Tuesday, Sept. 9, writing, “This court has been advised that the matter has been settled as to all parties and therefore, it is hereby ordered and adjudged that this case is dismissed. The court reserves jurisdiction to enforce the settlement and to enter orders necessary to this enforcement.”

As is common in these situations, the terms of the settlement remain private.

Jeffries’ attorney, Ariel Mitchell, told Billboard, “I can only comment that the matter has been resolved.”

Representatives for both Songz and E11even Miami did not immediately provide comment.

A History Of Allegations

This is not the first time Trey Songz has faced legal battles over sexual misconduct claims.

The singer previously settled allegations connected to a 2016 Los Angeles house party.

He is also expected to go to trial next year over a separate 2021 incident in Las Vegas.

Jeffries originally filed her lawsuit in 2020, and the case was long delayed by conflicting accusations between both legal teams.

Songz’s attorneys alleged that Mitchell attempted to bribe a witness to support her client’s account of the night in question, though Judge Arzola later ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to issue penalties, calling it a “classic ‘she-said versus she-said’ scenario.”

Complicating matters further, Mitchell herself now faces disciplinary action from the Florida Bar for statements she made to the press in 2022, where she claimed she had been cleared of wrongdoing when, in fact, an investigation was still ongoing.

What This Means For Trey Songz

While the confidential settlement closes one chapter for Trey Songz, the R&B star’s legal troubles are far from over.

With another trial set for 2026, his career continues to be shadowed by ongoing allegations and litigation.

For now, the Miami case is officially closed, though the circumstances surrounding it will likely remain a talking point as Songz navigates his public and professional future.
