Brandon Hanks says he was the PR guy for the force when he was making viral videos playing basketball with neighborhood kids, but when he pursued a promotion he was accused of being a gang member who sold drugs.

See the footage from the viral video below:

From the looks of the video Brandon should be suiting up for the New York Knicks.

Brandon Hanks said during the time he was getting the Syracuse Police Department national attention they loved him, but when he was denied a promotion to a gang violence task force he believes racism came into play.

He said he learned he was denied the promotion because members of the task force accused him of being a gang member who traffics narcotics.

Members of the gang violence task force, and supervisors, being a Captain in the Special Investigation Division, feels as though I am a gang member, a gang affiliate, and someone who traffics narcotics.

He says the claims don’t even sound right, and he believes the department knows the allegations are not true because if they believed they were true he would’ve been indicted.

Brandon is still currently working, and he has a lawsuit pending.

In the lawsuit, he states the Syracuse Police Department has a “Jim Crow culture.”

He said he’s been offered the promotion since he filed the lawsuit, but he turned it down and opted to bring the issue of systemic racism to light.
