Ricky Martin is rejecting claims he carried on “any kind of sexual and romantic relationship” with his 21-year-old nephew.

The singer is indeed facing allegations of domestic abuse from a young family member in Puerto Rico.

The singer’s attorney, Marty Singer, told Deadline:

Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges.

Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be– involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.

The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting.

We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs.

But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.

In short, they are denying Ricky had a sexual and romantic relationship with his nephew, but they aren’t denying his nephew is the petitioner of the restraining order.

We previously reported, that Puerto Rican authorities issued a restraining order against Ricky under the U.S. territory’s domestic violence laws on July 1, 2022.

El Vocero, a Puerto Rican newspaper, reported an unnamed petitioner, who had ended a seven-month relationship with the singer, bypassed filing a police complaint and went directly to the court seeking the restraining order.

According to court documents cited by the publication, Ricky Martin had refused to accept the petitioner’s decision to call things off and he continued to make frequent, unwanted contact with the person.

Ricky Martin addressed the restraining order via social media writing:

The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegation, so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me.

Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time.

I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart.

Ricky Martin.

A hearing has been set for July 21 in Puerto Rico.

If Ricky Martin is charged with felony domestic abuse with a relative, he could be facing up to 50 years in prison.

I will keep you updated on this case!
