R. Kelly’s former manager Donnell Russell has received a one-year prison sentence for calling in a gun threat to the Manhattan screening of “Surviving R. Kelly.”
On December 4, 2018, Donnell called an employee of NeueHouse theater in Madison Square and said there was a person in the building armed with a gun and prepared to shoot up the screening.
The threat prompted attendees to evacuate the theater and the screening was canceled.
Donnell Russell, 47, told a federal judge, “I’m not a horrible person,” but he did admit that he made “bad judgments” while working for the disgraced R&B singer.
Another one of those “bad judgments” included sending threats to a woman who accused R. Kelly of sexual abuse and posting explicit photos of her online.
Russell received a 20-month prison sentence in November for that “bad judgment.”
In June, R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and racketeering in Brooklyn.
He was also found guilty in September on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement in Chicago.
R. Kelly will be sentenced on those charges in February.
Donnell Russell will serve the 20-month sentence and the one-year sentence concurrently, beginning next year.
