Kentrell Desean Gaulden, better known as rapper NBA YoungBoy, has taken a plea deal in a prescription drug case, paving the way for his transfer to federal custody.

The 25-year-old Louisiana native resolved the case seven months after being arrested and booked into Cache County Jail.

On Monday, November 18, Gaulden appeared in Logan’s 1st District Court, where he entered a “no contest” plea to multiple charges.

These included two counts of forgery and two counts of identity fraud, both third-degree felonies, as well as six counts of unlawful pharmacy conduct, a class A misdemeanor.

While the plea doesn’t admit guilt, it is legally treated as such.

The Scheme Unveiled

Court documents revealed a scheme where NBA Youngboy allegedly orchestrated fraudulent prescriptions for promethazine and codeine.

Investigators say individuals tied to Gaulden called in fake prescriptions under real doctors’ names but with phony patient details.

These prescriptions were then picked up from pharmacies across Cache Valley, leading to charges against Gaulden and his associates.

The rapper was initially arrested on April 16 at his Weber County home, where he was on house arrest awaiting trial for federal weapons charges.

What’s Next for NBA YoungBoy?

Under the terms of the plea deal,  Kentrell Desean Gaulden will pay a $25,000 fine before the case is closed.

He will then be transferred to federal custody to serve 27 months in prison, followed by five years of probation.

Defense attorney Jon Williams emphasized the importance of Gaulden’s compliance with federal probation requirements, noting the high stakes for his future.

Cache County deputy attorney Ronnie Keller supported the resolution, describing the local charges as a small piece of a larger federal case.

Judge Spencer Walsh approved the agreement, stating that Gaulden’s significant sentence could serve as an opportunity for change.

“I’ve seen many talented individuals lose their potential to addiction,” Judge Walsh said, adding hope that Gaulden’s time in custody and probation could redirect his path.

The Bigger Picture

For NBA YoungBoy, whose career has often been marked by legal troubles, this plea deal is another chapter in his complex journey.

As he transitions to federal custody, fans and critics alike will be watching to see how the rapper navigates the next phase of his life.
