🚨 What Happened At Atlantic Station?

A late-night Lyft ride turned violent early Monday morning when a dispute between a driver and passenger ended in gunfire near Atlanta’s Atlantic Station.

According to Atlanta Police, the shooting went down around 2:13 a.m. on April 28 at the intersection of District Avenue and 18th Street NW.

Authorities say a verbal argument between the driver and the passenger escalated inside the rideshare vehicle before it spilled onto the street.

When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Thankfully, he was alert and breathing at the scene and was quickly rushed to Grady Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Monday morning.

🔎 Details About The Lyft Driver’s Arrest

The 23-year-old driver allegedly fired a 9mm handgun at the passenger during the argument, according to a warrant affidavit.

After firing the shot, police say the driver fled the scene, but officers later found the vehicle abandoned nearby at 17th Street and Spring Street NW.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

The driver is now facing multiple felony charges, including:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm or Knife During Commission or Attempt to Commit Certain Felonies

A witness told police the argument initially started inside the vehicle.

After the witness got out to retrieve some belongings, the driver reportedly exited the car, fired a single shot, and then sped off.

The shooting was captured on officers’ body cameras, and nearby security footage is expected to play a key role in the ongoing investigation.

🚗 Lyft Responds To The Shocking Incident

In response to the shooting, a spokesperson for Lyft issued a statement strongly condemning the driver’s actions and confirmed that he has been permanently banned from the platform:

This incident is deeply concerning, and the behavior described has no place in the Lyft community or our society.

We are in contact with the rider to offer support and stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation.

Our Terms of Service strictly prohibit weapons, and the driver has been permanently removed from our platform.

Lyft emphasized that safety remains a top priority for their riders and drivers alike.
