Letitia Wright Steps Behind The Camera
Letitia Wright is stepping into a whole new role — director. The Black Panther star just dropped the official key art for her forthcoming directorial debut, Highway to the Moon, and I’m already intrigued.
The short film, which Wright also wrote and produced, had its premiere at the South London Film Festival on May 31, 2025.
What Highway To The Moon Is All About
Described as a coming-of-age fantasy drama, Highway to the Moon follows Micah (played by Kenyah Sandy), whose life is tragically cut short.
He awakens in “The Inbetween” — a mysterious realm between life and death — where he encounters other young Black men who have faced similar fates.
Together, they unpack their shared experiences, confront the societal perceptions placed upon them, and ultimately find strength and empowerment in one another. The film also stars Lamar Waves in a key role.
The Heart Behind The Film
In a heartfelt move, Letitia Wright created Highway to the Moon as an artistic response to the lives lost to violence in London.
She has been vocal about wanting to use her platform to show appreciation, love, and humanity for young Black men.
By blending fantasy elements with deeply emotional storytelling, Wright invites audiences to see beyond the headlines and into the hearts of those often misunderstood or overlooked.
Go Behind The Scenes
Wright has also been sharing glimpses of the creative process and behind-the-scenes moments, giving frens a closer look at the passion and purpose driving this project.
From the performances to the visual aesthetic, Highway to the Moon looks like a short film that will leave a lasting impact.
Frens, when Highway to the Moon officially releases, will you be watching?
