John Boyega is slated to star in and executive produce “The Book of Eli,” a TV series prequel to the 2010 post-apocalyptic action film.
Boyega will portray a younger version of Denzel Washington‘s character, Eli, a lone wanderer in a desolate, dystopian future.
In the original Hughes Brothers-directed film, Eli possesses a sacred book that he believes holds the key to saving humanity.
As he travels through the barren landscape, he encounters various challenges, including ruthless gangs and a power-hungry warlord named Carnegie, played by Gary Oldman.
The Book of Eli explores themes of faith, survival, and the impact of knowledge in a world on the brink of collapse.
The mysterious nature of Eli’s mission and the significance of the book gradually unfold, leading to a climactic and thought-provoking conclusion.
According to Deadline, the details around John Boyega’s prequel are under wraps, but we do know that it is set 30 years before the film starring Denzel Washington.
The idea of John picking up the torch of a Denzel role is exciting, especially after John’s amazing performance in the 2022 film, Breaking.
“The Book of Eli” is one of my all-time favorite films and I’m sure John Boyega will maintain the bar with his forthcoming prequel.
