Jess Hilarious opened up about the regret she felt after making jokes about Chadwick Boseman‘s weight loss, unaware of his battle with cancer.

Jess Hilarious Regrets Chadwick Boseman Weight Loss Jokes

During one of her “Jess With the Mess” videos, Jess Hilarious clowned Chadwick Boseman’s appearance and the floodgates of backlash opened when he passed away four months later.

The comedian, actress, and co-host of “The Breakfast Club” admitted that the jokes she made about Chadwick are the only regret she has had her entire career.

She told Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor of “The Pivot” podcast:

I was gon’ stop doing ‘Jess with the Mess’ ‘cause all I do is riff on people… That’s my thing.

And I remember Chadwick Boseman had dropped a video shortly before he passed, and I thought he was training for a movie.

I thought he was, you know, some people really get into the roles that they, you know, lose weight for a role or something like that.

He was telling people to stay inside… I said you need to stay inside or something like that…

Of course, I didn’t know anything about his cancer or anything like that…

I riffed on him, and everybody thought it was funny and cool, even myself until he passed.

On August 28, 2020, Chadwick Boseman, the beloved Black Panther star, passed away after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

He was 43.

Chadwick Boseman’s last social media post was on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), where he spoke about an organization that was helping to provide hospitals that served Black and Brown communities with protective equipment during the pandemic.

When the comment section became flooded with comments about his drastic weight loss and appearance, the video was removed from his page.

Jess Hilarious recalled the backlash she received after Chadwick’s passing and how she was canceled for a while.

How I looked at myself was crazy… I was like, alright, I gotta change the way I move.

For a minute, I didn’t want to do ‘Jess with the Mess’ no more because you don’t know what the hell people going through, you don’t know when you come at somebody’s appearance…

I just looked at him as a great actor, so I’m like this n— really gettin into whatever role…and that wasn’t the case that time.

That wasn’t the case this time and it took me a minute to bounce back from that.

I was struggling with my own thing, and then I went online and seen how I was receiving hate, and I was canceled, and everything like that. I was like, ‘I deserve all of that.’
