In her exclusive interview with Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show, Jada Pinkett Smith says Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars over “some old s***!”
You may recall that Will laid hands on Chris like a Baptist preacher after the comedian made a joke about Jada’s hair.
When it comes to her infamous eye roll that many people feel was the hairpin trigger that set Will off that night, Jada said:
I did that eye roll not so much for me – and I think this is really important – but the fact that there could be another jab at alopecia.
After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock he advised him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth.
Jada said hearing Will say that kinda left her in shock.
What is going on? Now, first of all, I’m really shocked cause mind you – I’m not there. We haven’t called each other ‘husband and wife’ in a long time.
I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’
She went on to add that she was “really worried for Will cause I don’t know what’s going on.”
Jada Pinkett Smith said that Chris Rock leaned over the stage and told her, “Jada, I meant no harm”
Meanwhile, Will Smith was still popping off because he was mad that Chris was speaking to Jada.
The “Worthy” author said she told the comedian, “Chris, this is about some old s***!”
She added, “That’s all I could think to say. Right? And I couldn’t really take in his apology.”
Jada noted that Will Smith’s behavior was “not him whatsoever.”

So, what is the “old s***” Jada is referring to?
The actress recently told People that Chris Rock asked her out one summer when he thought she and Will were divorcing.
I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’
And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.
Jada Pinkett Smith reveals more about her marriage, career, and early life in her forthcoming memoir, “Worthy,” which is slated to be released on October 17.
