Summer Wheaton, a well-known wellness and lifestyle influencer, has been arrested in connection with a tragic car accident that claimed the life of 44-year-old rideshare driver Martin Okeke.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Wheaton surrendered to the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station on Monday, February 24, 2025, after an arrest warrant was issued.

Fatal Crash on the Pacific Coast Highway

The accident occurred on July 4, 2024, when Wheaton’s Mercedes Benz reportedly crossed the center median on the Pacific Coast Highway, colliding with Okeke’s Cadillac SUV.

Authorities state that the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. after Wheaton allegedly attended an event at Nobu, a popular Malibu restaurant.

The impact proved fatal for Okeke, while Wheaton and a passenger from the Cadillac were transported to UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center for treatment.

Summer Wheaton faces multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Reports indicate that Okeke’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Summer, alleging she was “severely intoxicated and impaired” at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s department stated that her recent arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation.

Nobu Event Controversy

Adding another layer to the case, ABC 7 reported that Nobu did not have the proper permits for the event Summer allegedly attended before the accident.

City officials had previously denied the permit due to safety concerns, but Nobu proceeded with the gathering, sparking legal debates over the restaurant’s responsibility.

Summer Wheaton’s legal team has yet to make a public statement regarding the charges.

As the case unfolds, the influencer’s future remains uncertain, with potential legal consequences looming.
