The family of George Floyd has retained prominent forensic pathologist, Dr. Michael Baden, to perform an independent autopsy.

The move was made after the medical examiner in the preliminary autopsy suggested his pre-existing health conditions were the underlying cause of his death, rather than a police officer with his knee in his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.

Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease.

The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin was arrested on Friday (May 29) and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

The remaining three officers involved in George’s death have yet to be charged.

This autopsy report is trying to set the stage for an acquittal.

I am thrilled to learn the Floyd family now has Dr. Baden to conduct a thorough and honest autopsy.

Lastly, George Floyd could have had a laundry list of medical conditions, it doesn’t negate the fact that the actions of those police officers caused his death.
