A disturbing incident has unfolded in Ocala, Florida, where a school principal has been arrested on charges of child abuse.
The Allegations
Dontay Akeem Prophet, the 33-year-old principal of Destiny Leadership Academy, a private school, is facing serious accusations.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Prophet is alleged to have physically attacked and detained a student under the age of 13.
What The Evidence Shows
The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a “physical disturbance” between Prophet and the student last Friday.
Authorities obtained surveillance footage from the classroom, which is said to paint a horrifying picture.
The statement from the Sheriff’s Office details that the footage shows Prophet:
- Confining the student: Prophet allegedly prevented the child from leaving the room for over 40 minutes.
- Physical assault: The footage reportedly captures Prophet grabbing the student, restraining them on the ground, and using a chokehold. The child is also seen being struck with a charging cable, slapped, and having their ankle twisted.
Principal’s Defense and Arrest
Dontay Akeem Prophet reportedly claimed to the police that he was simply trying to “prevent harm to the child.”
However, authorities state that the evidence “clearly contradicted this assertion.”
Prophet was arrested and is currently being held without bond in the Marion County Jail.
