Comedian Rickey Smiley is mourning the passing of his eldest son, Brandon Smiley.

Smiley took to social media on Sunday to share “My son passed away this morning.”

While preparing to make his way to Birmingham to be with his family, Rickey Smiley shared a video where he asked his friends and fans to “pray for my family” during this difficult time.

He didn’t provide any information regarding how his son passed, but Rickey Smiley did note that he “is okay”…well, as okay as any parent can be after learning of the death of their child.

The caption on his post read, “I lost my oldest son #BrandonSmiley this morning. I’m okay, but please pray for my son’s mother Brenda, his siblings, and his daughter Storm.”

Brandon was found unresponsive inside his residence by a friend, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The discovery was made by a friend at 10:07 a.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of 31st Ave. North.

Brandon was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:52 a.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said an autopsy performed early Monday found no evidence of trauma or foul play and the cause of death is pending additional laboratory studies.

Like his father, Brandon Smiley was also an actor, comedian, and proud father.

Four years ago, Brandon opened up about battling alcoholism on an episode of “The Rickey Smiley Show.”

In April of 2022, Brandon took to social media to share that he had given his life to Christ.

The devastating news of his passing comes 11 days before his 33 birthday on February 9.

I extend my sincerest condolences and prayers to Rickey Smiley, his family, and all who knew and loved Brandon.
