Beyoncé has updated “Energy” and removed the Kelis sample from the song, as well as the credit she gave her on the track.
The original version of the song, which is featured on Bey’s new album, Renaissance, contained an interpolation of Kelis’ hit 2003 single, “Milkshake.”
@jarredjermaine This is the sample (interpolation) in Beyonce “Energy” off her album ‘Renaissance’ that uses Kelis “Milkshake” produced by Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo. It isn’t from her song “Get Along With You” like the internet keeps saying #beyonce #energy #renaissance #kelis #milkshake #getalongwithyou #music #sample #samples #sampled ♬ ENERGY (feat. The move comes days after Kelis took to the streets of social media and blasted the Queen Bey for not reaching out to her before sampling the song.
When one of her fan pages expressed their excitement about her music being sampled, she responded through her official chef page writing, “My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding.”
“I heard about this the same way everyone else did,” she added. “Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Kelis went on to Beyoncé for not having the “common decency” to reach out to her before sampling her music.
“It was stupid and disrespectful and she should have at least reached out,” she said in the video.
Kelis also aired out Pharrell Williams for being the puppetmaster of all of the foolishness.
