WE tv has greenlit “Bev is Boss,” a new scripted series based on the life of music managing mogul Deb Antney.
The series was announced by AMC Studios’ President of Original Programming Dan McDermott during Tuesday’s Upfronts.
According to Deadline, the eight-episode series will follow the life experiences and career of Deb Antney.
Deb, a Jamaica Queens, New York native, was a single mother of five when she relocated to Atlanta.
She landed a position with the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services where she coordinated community activities.
In 2007, she launched her talent management firm, Mizay Entertainment, and rose to fame for breaking the careers of high-profile artists like Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, and French Montana.
In addition to being a “no holds barred” businesswoman, Deb is also mom to acclaimed rapper Waka Flocka and a mentor to many others in the music industry.
“Bev is Boss” is executive produced by Jamie Foxx and his creative partner Datari Turner for Foxxhole Productions.
Deb, who also serves as an executive producer opened up about the process of creating a show centered on her life story.
Being vulnerable and letting others in isn’t exactly a comfortable place for me.
However, it’s where I needed to go creatively to tell this uniquely personal story.
Working with Jamie and his team to bring my story to life has been deeply rewarding on a professional level.
‘Bev is Boss’ pulls back the curtain on my personal journey and invites the world to experience each step along the way.
The series is slated to premiere this summer on WE tv with Nikaya D. Brown Jones as showrunner.
I will be on time for this because Deb Antney has a compelling life story and I’m sure Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner will understand and execute the assignment.
WE tv has also announced the new unscripted series “Toya & Reginae.”
