Amanda Seales had a Tea Party during her interview on “Club Shay Shay” and for the very first time she is speaking candidly about her relationship with Issa Rae and her experience as a cast member of the hit HBO series, “Insecure.”
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that Amanda and Issa’s relationship isn’t the sisterhood that we would have liked it to be.
But, Amanda lays it all on the table and shares how her efforts to protect Issa became a detriment to herself.
Amanda Seales recalled how a show she created, “Get Your Life,” was posted on Issa’s YouTube and the press began to run stories that it was Issa’s new show.
When Amanda reached out to Issa to drop a tweet to set the record straight – she refused.
So, I’ve never talked about this publicly because it has always been incredibly important to me to protect Issa.
Because I know that Issa is doing something within this business that so few people get to do….
But, I know that her role is very important.
So, I’ve always protected Issa.
However, there’s just been enough instances at this point, where I should have been protected by Issa and I wasn’t. And one of my biggest problems that we have discussed several times in this interview is that I think people are going to show up for me the way I show up for them.
And now, it’s at a point where my protecting of Issa has become turned on to me and something people are using against me.
There’s a whole narrative that is completely false that people keep spinning saying that I’m this mean girl on this set. That I harmed these people on this set.
I just want to point out something very basic. How can I be a mean girl on a set that ain’t my set? How? It’s your show. You are my boss.
I don’t even have the capacity to be the mean girl here. Cause you can fire me. So, there’s no way for me to be a mean girl in this situation.
And I know there are some people that may buck up against the confirmation bias that they’ve created, but it simply is the truth.
But, Issa’s publicist, Vanessa Anderson, wasn’t here for Amanda in any way, shape, or form, and never missed an opportunity to let her know it.
You may recall she famously kicked Amanda Seales out of the Black Emmys Party back in 2019.
Issa Rae attempted to play mediator between Amanda and Vanessa.
Amanda, who says she never had an issue with Vanessa, agreed because at the end of the day, Issa Rae is “her boss [on ‘Insecure’].”
The phone call went left and Amanda says Vanessa began a smear campaign against her.
Issa Rae then calls Amanda to ask if her beef with Vanessa is “going to be a problem on set.”
Amanda Seales goes on to share how Issa had a responsibility to invoke leadership when it came to issues between her employees.
I said, ‘You know, listen, I am not saying that it’s going to be a problem on set. But, I do think it is a problem that you don’t feel that you need to step in.
Issa chalked it up as a difference of opinion and noted that the issue is “between y’all.”
Back on the set of “Insecure,” Amanda says she received the cold shoulder.
Now, we have to go back to shooting and nobody is saying nothing to me. Everybody knows cause at this time it’s just the women shooting.
Everybody knows what’s going and they don’t say nothing to me and that’s just f—king mean. It’s mean! They don’t say nothing to me.
And let me tell you from the beginning I have been trying with these ladies because I want to make community everywhere that I go.
I done invited them to my house – they didn’t come. I bought them gifts – they say ‘thanks.’
I tried to plan a retreat – they said, ‘We don’t want to go.’

I’m interested to see if Issa Rae will react or respond to Amanda Seale’s remarks.
