Preliminary autopsy results for rapper Young Scooter, aka Kenneth Bailey, reveal how a fatal leg injury—not police gunfire—led to his death.
Here’s everything we know so far.
📰 What Happened To Young Scooter?
Tragedy struck the Atlanta music scene on Friday when news broke that rapper Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Rashaad Bailey, had died following a police response in southeast Atlanta.
It was his 39th birthday.
Atlanta police responded to reports of gunfire and a violent altercation involving a woman at a residence on the 200 block of William Nye Drive.
Witnesses claimed a woman was being dragged into a home shortly before the chaos unfolded.
When officers arrived and knocked on the door, a man briefly opened it—then slammed it shut.
From there, things escalated.
🚔 The Chase That Turned Deadly
Officers surrounded the house. Two men ran.
One eventually returned. The other—later identified as Young Scooter—jumped two fences while trying to flee.
He was discovered nearby with injuries and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later passed away.
That second man was confirmed to be Bailey.
🧬 What Young Scooter’s Autopsy Revealed
On Saturday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a preliminary autopsy.
The results confirmed that Bailey died due to a severe injury to his right thigh—not from a gunshot, as many initially speculated online.
According to the report, Bailey was seriously wounded by organic fencing material or woody debris after leaping over at least one fence.
The injury caused “marked blood loss,” which ultimately proved fatal.
Dr. Cecil Bennett of Newnan Family Medicine explained just how dangerous a leg injury can be—especially if it involves the femoral artery, a major blood vessel in the thigh.
“One can bleed out in seconds from a laceration to a femoral artery,” Dr. Bennett stated.
“The femoral artery is under pressure, which means that once it’s cut, it’s not just a matter of bleeding—there’s a pulse. So there’s an increased loss of blood because of the pulse.”
And during a high-speed chase?
“Running just makes things worse,” he added.
“A high heart rate makes things worse.”
❌ What The Police Are Saying
Social media was flooded with speculation that Bailey was shot by police—but officials have firmly pushed back on that narrative.
The Atlanta Police Department released a public statement following the autopsy report:
The Atlanta Police Department is aware of inaccurate comments and social media posts regarding the death of Kenneth Bailey.
While we understand that many people are saddened by his passing, it is important to recognize that Atlanta police officers neither discharged their firearms nor used any force against Mr. Bailey.
They also shared the findings of the Medical Examiner to support their statement.
Young Thug seemingly took to social media and alluded to Scooter being shot.
The rapper tweeted, then deleted, “Autopsy came back street got shot.”
❓ What’s Still Unknown In The Young Scooter Case
Even with the autopsy report shedding light on the cause of death, many questions remain:
- Who was the woman reportedly dragged into the house?
- Who made the 911 call?
- What happened inside before police arrived?
- Why did Bailey and the other man flee?
Police have not identified or located the alleged victim, and the full story behind the 911 call is still unfolding.
