YNW Melly Gets New Court Date For His Double Murder Case Due To COVID-19

28

YNW Melly will have a status hearing on January 28, 2021, during which prosecutors and attorneys will discuss the progress of Melly’s double homicide capital murder case.

The status hearing will be done over zoom, and Melly will remain in custody in Broward County Jail.

Paula McMahon, Broward State Attorney’s Office spokeswoman, explained in an email, “COVID-19 is affecting practically all cases in our jurisdiction. Every case has unique facts and circumstances, but homicide cases routinely take more than a couple of years.”

Melly is accused of killing his group members Anthony Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy) in 2018.

YNW Melly was arrested in February 2019 and he has maintained his innocence.

It was reported that Melly and his friend Cortlen Henry drove around with the dead bodies in a car while they tried to make up a believable alibi.

Henry eventually took the two bodies to the emergency room on October 26, 2018, and said they had been shot in a drive-by.

After investigating Henry’s story, police started finding holes all over it. Police found a shell casing inside Henry’s vehicle and eight more casings at where they believe Melly and Henry shot up the car to stage a drive-by.

Police believe the first shot came from inside the car, from the left rear passenger side where Melly was sitting, surveillance footage confirms Melly was in the back left seat.

If convicted of the double murder, YNW Melly will face the death penalty.
