Kanye West captivated the city of Atlanta last night at his Donda listening party, and the city blessed him with two amazing gifts after the show.
According to sources, city officials presented Kanye with a plaque backstage that officially proclaimed July 22 as Kanye West Day in Atlanta.
Kanye was born in Atlanta, and his mother Donda West started her teaching career at Morris Brown College, the only HBCU in Georgia founded by Black people.
She taught at Morris Brown for nearly 20 years, and she was the Chair of the English Department.
Kevin James, the President of Morris Brown College, was also backstage and he presented Kanye with the Dr. Donda West Meritorious Service to Morris Brown College Award.
Reportedly, Kanye accepted the awards in front of his family and it was a very emotional scene.
The sold-out event took place at the Mercedes Benz Stadium, and one of the highlights of the night was Kanye’s surprise collaboration with Jay-Z.
Congratulations to Kanye on both of his awards.
