Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia are currently working on a reboot of The Scorpion King through their Seven Bucks production company.
Although Dwayne starred in the original 2002 film, they are planning to go in a new direction with the film as well as the director.
Via Deadline:
With Johnson booked through 2022, the studio will look to tap a new actor to play the action hero as well as a director to steer the ship. Insiders also add its likely he won’t appear in the movie but given how important the property is to Johnson and the studio, there is always a possibility he could make an appearance when this film does finally get into production.
Seven Bucks has tapped Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman to pen the reboot.
In a statement, Dwayne Johnson said:
The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation. I wouldn’t have had the career I’m lucky enough to have had it not been for The Scorpion King and I’m thrilled that we at Seven Bucks Productions can help create those same opportunities for other hardworking actors today. I believe Jonathan Herman will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script for our global audience.
