Pastor Dwayne Dawkins recently opened up about the scandal that almost caused him to take his own life.
In March 2022, the husband, father of three, and 14-year pastor of Praise Tabernacle International in South Florida was outed when a video of him engaging in sex acts with another man was leaked online.
While speaking at the Leaders In Training Conference in Atlanta, Pastor Dawkins shared that he hooked up with a “sneaky link” and allowed him to film their activity for his private use.
“In that moment, he recorded it. I was aware of the recording. Prior to it was asked if he could record and I thought it would be for his personal pleasure.”
Unfortunately, the “link” was a content creator who shared the video online and blocked the pastor when he reached out to him to take the video down.
The video received over one million views.
Dawkins, who famously condemned homosexuality in his sermons saying that it was “not normal,” was slammed by the masses for his hypocrisy.
He shared that the overwhelming shame left him contemplating suicide.
“For the first time ever in my life, I pulled out my life insurance policy and while church folk laughed at it, while friends distanced from me, I’m contemplating getting rid of myself,” he said.
Pastor Dwayne Dawkins shared that it was the thought of his sons that made him reconsider ending his life.
“That night I decided I’m going to have to live for my sons. A dead dad or a bisexual struggling dad…which one? I decided to live.”
He went on to say, “I fell in a way that most people think you can’t come back from.”
But, Pastor Dawkins added, “I’m still in the process of healing.”
He is now living in Atlanta and is back in the classroom teaching students.
