Bonds have been set for the couple who is facing 2nd degree murder charges in the death of 2-year-old Neveah Allen.
On Monday, a judge set bond at $375,000 for the child’s mother, Lanaya Cardwell, and her boyfriend, Phillip Gardner.
At the same hearing, the judge learned Lanaya is eight months pregnant.
Neveah was reported missing from her mother’s apartment on Friday, September 24, and an expansive search for the toddler that included the FBI.
A day later, Phillip Gardner was arrested after he admitted he disposed of the child’s body in the woods of Mississippi when he found her unresponsive in their home.
As more details in the case emerged detectives learned Lanaya Cardwell brutally beat Neveah on Friday morning over a pair of contact lenses before she went to work.
The child is believed to have succumbed to her injuries. Instead of calling the paramedics, Phillip put the Neveah Allen in a suitcase, drove to Mississippi, and disposed of her body.
Lanaya was arrested on Wednesday and both she and Phillip were charged with second-degree murder.
The WBRZ Investigative Unit learned Thursday that Gardner and Cardwell have told police conflicting stories about how Nevaeh died.
Police now say it is unclear whether Cardwell knew her child was dead when she filed the missing persons report.
