Mandisa, the Grammy Award-winning singer who captured hearts and souls with her powerful voice and inspiring journey, passed away on Thursday, April 18, at the age of 47. 

Her representative confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating that Mandisa was found deceased in her Nashville-area home. 

“At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”


A spokesman for the Franklin Police Department said officers were involved in an active death investigation Friday.

As the shock of her sudden departure settles in, tributes pour in from fans worldwide, remembering her not just for her incredible voice but also for her resilience, faith, and unwavering spirit.

Mandisa’s journey to stardom began on the iconic stage of “American Idol” Season 5 in 2006. 

Hailing from Citrus Heights, California, Mandisa Lynn Hundley captivated audiences with her soulful performances and magnetic personality, earning a spot among the top 10 contestants. 

Despite facing challenges and criticism, Mandisa’s talent shone brightly, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.

Beyond “American Idol,” Mandisa’s musical career soared to unprecedented heights. 

Her debut album, True Beauty, made history by debuting at No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums charts, a testament to her immense talent and widespread appeal. 

Over the years, she continued to release chart-topping albums and singles, earning multiple Grammy nominations and accolades along the way.

However, fame came with its share of struggles for Mandisa. In her memoir, “Out of the Dark,” she courageously shared her battle with depression and anxiety, shedding light on the darkest moments of her life. 


Despite facing overwhelming despair and contemplating suicide, Mandisa found solace in her faith and the unwavering support of her loved ones.
