Less than 30 minutes before the verdict was read in the Derek Chauvin case, Columbus, Ohio police fatally shot 16-year-old, Ma’Khia Bryant.
Police were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday to respond to a report of a “disturbance.”
Upon arrival, police allegedly saw Ma’Khia with a knife in her hand and reportedly shot her four times in the chest.
She was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Unconfirmed reports claim Ma’Khia was being attacked and had the knife for protection from her attacker(s).
Her aunt told reporters it was Ma’Khia who called the police for help, but upon their arrival, they took her life.
The aunt also implored the media to report the truth or don’t report the story on her niece at all.
Ma’Khia’s mother, Paula Bryant, spoke about her daughter saying she “had a motherly nature about her” and that “she promoted peace.”
