Kelly Rowland is receiving mixed reviews in the Twitterverse after defending Chris Brown at the 2022 American Music Awards last night (November 20).
Chris Brown was removed from performing at the AMAs with no explanation at the last minute, but ironically he won the award for Favorite Male R&B Artist.
Chris even promoted his nomination on Twitter before he received the news that his performance was canceled.
Kelly Rowland, the AMA presenter of the Favorite Male R&B Artist award, was met with boos when she announced Chris Brown as the winner, but she quieted the crowd and made sure that she gave her friend CB his flowers.
Excuse me!… Chill out!
But, I want to tell Chris thank you so much for making great R&B music.
And, I want to tell him thank you for being an incredible performer.
I’ll take this award, bring it to you, I love you, congratulations!

So the AMAs cancel CB’s performance but gives him an award for Favorite Male R&B artist…
There is speculation around the Twitterverse that CB’s past allegations of physical abuse toward women played into the AMA’s decision to cancel his performance, which calls into question why was he booked to perform, to begin with.
Despite other platforms showing that they respect the growth that they’ve seen in CB over the years and allowing him to perform at their award shows, it appears someone at the AMAs is not as forgiving.

Prior to the show, Kelly Rowland talked about how she leans on her faith to navigate tough questions and remain classy, and she made it clear that “everybody deserves grace.”
