A woman, who has been identified as Keisha Young, was dragged down a flight of stairs by her hair in a case of mistaken identity at a Washington D.C. bar.

The incident took place Saturday at Nellie’s Sports Bar in Washington D.C., which is a popular LGBTQ+ sports bar that received an influx of patrons from a nearby Pride parade that took place earlier in the day.

In the video, you see a security guard dragging Keisha down the stairs, and you hear bar patrons yelling out in disbelief. Those yells quickly turned to blows as several patrons put the whoop on the security guard.

Keisha told WUSA9 she was dragged down the stairs by her hair because the bar staff mistook her for someone else.

Security was trying to get some other people out because somebody else brought a bottle in there. Somehow I got mixed up in an altercation because I look like somebody else and I got hit and dragged down the steps.

Protestors showed up at Nellie’s on Sunday holding signs and chanting “Justice for Keisha.”

Nellie’s Sports Bar recently took to their IG account and apologized for the incident and informed the press that they have taken immediate action and fired the independent security vendor who took part in dragging Keisha down the steps.

What about the other people seen in the video assisting the security guard?

Nellie’s Sports Bar also stated that they will be closed this week to evaluate “this regrettable situation.”

Nellie’s Sports Bar has terminated, with immediate effect, the independent security vendor hired to protect our guests during Pride Week. Our investigation into the matter is ongoing, and we will cooperate with any law enforcement investigation, however we do not need to wait for the investigation’s conclusion before we take decisive action. We offer a heartfelt apology to all who witnessed the horrific events of this past weekend. No matter what behavior occurred prior, nothing warrants mistreating, and disrespecting, one of our guests.

What we can say is we have heard the concerns of the BIPOC and LGBTQ communities. Nellie’s will be closed this week as we evaluate this regrettable situation, though we will continue to pay all non-security staff their normal wages. In the interim, we will use this time to listen and understand what more we can do to create the safe and friendly atmosphere our guests have come to expect from Nellie’s Sports Bar over the past 14 years.
