Jussie Smollett released from jail on $150,000 bond

Jussie Smollett was released from jail on Wednesday (March 16) after posting a $150,000 personal recognizance bond.

The actor will remain out on bond while he appeals his conviction on charges of fabricating a racist and homophobic attack, then lying to police about it. 

Last week, Jussie was sentenced to serve 150 days in Cook County Jail after he was convicted on five felony counts of disorderly conduct. 

His attorneys argued he should be released because the appeal process could last longer than his sentence and they feared for his safety while he was in Cook County Jail. 

Several celebrities like Taraji P. Henson and Tina Lawson have spoken out in support of Jussie Smollett during his brief incarceration saying that his punishment does not fit the crime.
