Chicago filmmaker Matthew A Cherry and producer Karen Rupert Toliver won an Oscar on Sunday night for their beautiful animated short film, Hair Love.
The film was adapted from Matthew’s 2019 best-selling children’s book (illustrated by Vashti Harrison) about a black father doing his daughter’s hair for the first time.
During his acceptance speech, Matthew Cherry shared, “Hair Love was born out of wanting to see more representation in animation, but also wanting to normalize black hair.”
Without further ado, I present to you the Oscar-winning best animated film, Hair Love.
Congratulations and thank you to Matthew Cherry, Karen Rupert Toliver and their entire crew for making this film!
