Damon Dash Files For Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Music mogul and entrepreneur Damon Dash has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Florida, revealing in court documents that he is more than $25 million in debt with just over $4,000 in personal assets.
The 54-year-old co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records listed his total liabilities at $25.3 million and reported his monthly income as $0.
According to filings, Dash does not own a home, car, or electronics, other than his $500 cell phone.
His remaining assets include his phone, two guns, clothing, and $100 in cash…altogether worth $4,350.
Financial Obligations And Tax Debt
Court filings show that Damon Dash owes more than $647,000 in domestic support obligations, as well as $19.1 million in taxes and other government debts.
He also owes significant amounts to his ex-wife Rachel Roy, with whom he shares daughters Ava, 25, and Tallulah, 17, as well as Cindy Morales, mother of his son Lucky, 21, and Linda Williams, mother of his son Boogie, 33.
Dash also noted in the filings that he is owed an “unknown” amount by Roc-A-Fella co-founder Kareem Burke.
Public Response And Social Media Posts
The day after filing, Damon Dash took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a headline about his bankruptcy with the caption, “Now let’s get to work #staytuned.”
On the same day, he also posted a video about his health, thanking supporters and revealing he had undergone successful eye and dental surgeries while spending time with his 4-year-old son, Dusko, with fiancée Raquel Horn.
In August 2024, Dash opened up about his financial challenges in an Instagram video, stating, “Somebody asked me how I got so broke. Investing in my dreams. When you’re investing in your dreams and you dream big, you’re always gonna be broke.”
Past Money Struggles And Roc-A-Fella Sale
In November 2024, the New York state government auctioned off Damon Dash’s one-third stake in Roc-A-Fella Records for $1 million in an effort to recover nearly $9 million in back taxes.
Reports at the time listed Dash among the state’s top tax-delinquent residents.
Despite his struggles, Dash continues to hint at future plans, telling his followers to “stay tuned” as he pushes forward.
