I am sad to report Coronji Calhoun Sr., the actor who starred in Monster’s Ball as Halle Berry’s son, has died.
Coronji was just 10-years-old when he played the role of Tyrell Musgrove.
Monster’s Ball was his first and only acting role.
The St. Charles Parish native died on October 13, 2021, from congestive heart failure and issues with his lungs, according to his mother, Theresa Bailey.
Coronji was 30.
The family launched a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 to cover Coronji’s final arrangements because he didn’t have life insurance.
The fundraiser reached its goal on Wednesday (November 10) after Halle Berry and producer Lee Daniels both donated $3,394.
Halle, who won an Oscar for her role in the film, previously spoke about filming tough scenes with Coronji, who was already being bullied by kids at school because of his weight.
Theresa described her son as “a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to his community.”
Coronji Calhoun Sr. leaves behind his mother, a 10-year-old son, and a 13-year-old stepson, to cherish his memory.
My sincerest condolences to his loved ones and friends.
May Coronji Rest In Peace.
