Kevin Hart is mourning the passing of his father, Henry Robert Witherspoon.
The comedian and actor took to social media on Wednesday to pay tribute to his father with a heartfelt message.
Kevin wrote:
RIP to one of the realest & rawest to ever do it…Love you dad. Gone but never forgotten….Give mom a hug for me….y’all did good man.
Thank you for everything….I’m a better father because of you ?????
We will all make you proud….
See Kevin Hart’s original post below.
In his 2017 memoir, “I Can’t Make This Up,” Kevin Hart talked about how his father was oftentimes not around due to his crippling drug and jail stints.
But, he also shared in an exclusive interview with People magazine how he was able to forgive his father.
Regardless of my upbringing and the way I was raised and how often he was in my life, he’s my dad…I have a positive outlook on life regardless and I’m going to love you because you’re my father.
I understand that nobody’s perfect, people are flawed, people make mistakes. I shouldn’t hold a high level of judgment over your head about things I can’t change.
You can’t go back in the past and fix this or fix that. I can only move forward, and I can only love you today.
Kevin gets most of his qualities from his beloved mother, Nancy Hart, who passed away from cancer in 2007.
But, he definitely learned important lessons about fatherhood from his dad.
I took the mistakes that I feel that my dad may have made and instead of complaining about them, I use them to my advantage. I know what I should do, and the things that I don’t want my kids to ever feel…And the most important thing that you can give your kids is time.
My sincerest condolences and prayers to Kevin Hart and his family during this difficult time.
