What Happened At The Back-To-School Event?
A North Carolina community event turned into a chaotic scene when a woman allegedly opened fire to stop a fight. According to authorities, Cherez Davis, 34, was arrested after firing shots into the air during the 11th annual Back-to-School Health Fair at the C.W. Williams Community Health Center in Charlotte.
The fair is known for offering $25 physicals, immunizations, and free school supplies to local students.
But on Saturday, August 9, things took a frightening turn when Davis’s son and another boy got into an argument that escalated quickly.
The Alleged Shooting And Aftermath
According to an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Davis claimed another adult became involved in the dispute, making matters worse.
She told police she pulled a Taurus G6 handgun from her backpack and fired two shots into the air to try to break up the fight.
The gunfire sent more than 100 parents and children scrambling for safety.
Authorities say Davis put the gun back in her backpack and started walking away before officers located her.
Charges And Court Date
Cherez Davis was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and going armed to the terror of people.
She was released on a $50,000 bond, according to online jail records.
No injuries were reported. Davis is scheduled to appear in court on December 9.
Her public defender has not yet issued a statement.
