Influencer Brenay Kennard Ordered To Pay $1.75 Million In Marriage Destruction Case

A North Carolina jury has delivered a jaw-dropping verdict that has the internet buzzing. TikTok influencer Brenay Kennard, who boasts nearly 3 million followers, was ordered to pay $1.75 million to Akira Montague after being found liable for destroying Akira’s marriage to her husband, Tim Montague.

The civil suit, filed in Durham County Court, accused Kennard of seducing and having an affair with her manager, Tim, ultimately leading to the end of the Montagues’ marriage.

Akira’s attorney, Robonetta Jones, said, “She has received justice from losing her husband and the father of her children.”

What Happened Between Brenay Kennard And Akira Montague’s Husband?

According to court records, Akira and Tim Montague married in 2018.

But things took a messy turn when Kennard entered the picture.

Akira claimed the affair caused her mental anguish and robbed her children of a stable two-parent home.

The case hinged on North Carolina’s alienation of affection law, which allows a spouse to sue a third party for interfering in their marriage.

Only a handful of states still allow this type of lawsuit, making the case even more high-profile.

After a nearly two-hour deliberation, the jury sided with Akira, awarding $1.5 million for alienation of affection and $250,000 for criminal conversation, a legal term for having sex with someone’s spouse.

The Viral Trial That Captured Social Media’s Attention

Kennard, who represented herself in court, denied wrongdoing and claimed Akira consented to the relationship because she “knew her marriage was over.”

But Akira’s team wasn’t buying it.

Jones presented videos where Kennard joked about buying a pregnancy test after “getting down and dirty in the sheets” and another clip where she said, “I make her very uncomfortable.”

Kennard insisted the remarks were taken out of context and denied being sexually active with Tim at the time.

The courtroom was packed as supporters chanted “Team A-kira!” after the verdict.

Akira’s emotional reaction, rocking and hugging her attorney, showed just how personal the battle had been.

North Carolina’s Long History Of Love Triangle Lawsuits

This isn’t the first time a scorned spouse has won big under North Carolina’s alienation of affection laws.

In 2011, Carol Puryear was awarded a record-breaking $30 million after suing her husband’s mistress.
In 2018, NFL player Fletcher Cox faced a similar lawsuit that ended in a private settlement.
In 2021, former state senator Rick Gunn paid $3 million to settle claims he had an affair with a married aide.

You may remember that Fantasia Barrino found herself in a similar situation back in 2010 when she was sued by Paula Cook, the wife of her then-lover, Antwaun Cook.

During court proceedings, Fantasia admitted she knew Antwaun was married when their relationship began in the summer of 2009.

She also revealed that she became pregnant and later chose to have an abortion.

The Grammy-winning singer reportedly offered Paula $100,000 to settle the matter privately, but Paula declined.

In the end, the judge ruled in Fantasia’s favor, determining that Antwaun was already legally separated when their affair started, which led to Paula losing the case.

Now, Brenay Kennard’s case joins the list of headline-making verdicts that prove cheating in North Carolina can cost you in a big way.

What’s Next For Brenay Kennard?

Following the verdict, Kennard called the ruling unfair and accused Akira of seeking revenge and financial gain.

She maintained that Tim made his own decisions and that their relationship began after his marriage had already crumbled.

The 29-year-old influencer, known for her “Get Ready With Me” videos and mukbangs, has yet to reveal whether she plans to appeal the decision.

But one thing’s for sure, this courtroom drama has turned into a cautionary tale for social media stars everywhere.

I know one thing…sidechicks and side dudes better tighten up in North Carolina.

I’ve said it before…and I’ll say it again: The best place to fight a bish is in her pocketbook!
