Angela Rye recently sat down for an interview with Cherelle Griner, the wife of WNBA star Brittney Griner.
Brittney has been wrongfully detained in Russia since February and as you can imagine, it has been extremely hard for Cherelle, who is fighting to get her back home.
Angela took to social media to tease her interview with Cherelle Griner, which is slated to air on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. on NBA Countdown.
She wrote:
96 Days. WNBA Superstar Brittney Griner has been wrongfully detained in Russia for more than THREE months.
@cherelletgriner, Brittney’s wife, sat down with me for a conversation about her efforts to get BG back home.
A recent North Carolina Central University law school graduate, she’s pledged to make BG proud in the court because BG is such a legend on the court.
The interview with Cherelle will premiere on NBA Countdown at 7:30p ET/4:30p PT on @ESPN!
In the clip, Cherelle shared Brittney’s last words to her before leaving for Russia:
It’s the irony of all of it, you know?
She didn’t want to go back.
She just said she’s so exhausted from always having to go overseas and we talked about it and I was like, ‘Well, you know what, babe? Let’s just make this your last year overseas. You don’t have to go back anymore.’
I was like, ‘We’ll figure something else out.’
You know when it comes to pay…because there is a tremendous difference in the amount of money she makes when she’s playing in the WNBA versus when she goes overseas.
See the original posts as well as a first look clip from the interview.
I pray for Brittney Griner’s safe release so that she can return home to her family.
