Legendary director Debbie Allen is also returning to the Hillman universe to direct three episodes, including the premiere.

Allen, who directed 83 episodes of the original series, shared her excitement, saying, “There couldn’t be a better time to reboot ‘A Different World.’ Our show changed lives and gave a strong voice to Young Black America.”

Why Fans Are Excited For This Revival

When “A Different World” premiered in 1987, it redefined representation on television and helped triple enrollment at HBCUs.

Now, Netflix’s revival aims to build on that powerful legacy while introducing Hillman College to a new generation of viewers.

“It’s such an honor to bring back this iconic show,” Pride said. “We’re celebrating its roots while reimagining it for today’s world.”

The new ten-episode, half-hour comedy joins Netflix’s growing slate of smart, culturally rich comedies like “The Vince Staples Show,” “Emily in Paris,” and “Survival of the Thickest.

It’s safe to say class is officially back in session at Hillman.
