Za’Darius Smith Officially Calls It A Career
Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Za’Darius Smith has officially retired from the NFL after 11 incredible seasons.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Za’Darius reflected on his unlikely rise from a small-town kid in Greenville, Alabama, to one of the league’s most respected defensive players.
“I knew this day would come, but now that it’s here, I’m feeling so many emotions I never expected,” Smith wrote.
“Who would’ve thought that a kid from Greenville, AL, with just one year of high school football experience, would go on to play professional football in the NFL for 11 incredible years!”
Reflecting On A Career Full Of Gratitude And Growth
Throughout his post, Za’Darius Smith expressed immense gratitude to the coaches, teammates, and fans who’ve supported him throughout his career.
He highlighted how football not only shaped his professional life but also transformed his personal journey and opened doors for community impact.
“This career has taken me across the world, from earning my first passport stamp to visit countries I only saw on maps, to helping me start a foundation that gives back to my community,” Smith shared.
He also included a powerful Bible verse, Luke 12:48: “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
A Message To The Fans
Za’Darius’ message ended with a heartfelt thank you to fans across all the teams he’s represented, a reminder of just how much he values the love and connection shared throughout his journey.
“To every fan from each organization I represented: thank you, thank you, thank you for everything!
From wearing my jerseys, collecting my cards, sending letters, sharing your opinions (good and tough ones alike), and most importantly, showing love. I felt it all.”
