Well, my hometown has made national news…Authorities are on the lookout for a woman who recklessly climbed over a fence at the Cohanzick Zoo in New Jersey, trying to touch a Bengal tiger.
In a video shared by the Bridgeton Police Department, the woman is seen dangerously close to the animal, even attempting to entice it by reaching through the wire enclosure.
The tiger, clearly agitated, lunged at her hand, nearly biting her.
Thankfully, she pulled back just in time before the tiger turned away.
The incident has sparked concern, with zoo officials and police emphasizing the importance of safety rules.
A sign near the enclosure explicitly warns against climbing fences, stating it’s a violation of city ordinance 247-C.
Such actions could lead to being banned from the zoo.
John Medica, Director of Recreation and Public Affairs for Bridgeton, stressed that the safety of both animals and visitors is paramount.
Any behavior that endangers this balance won’t be tolerated.
The tiger involved is one of two Bengal tigers at the zoo, both born in 2016 and weighing nearly 500 pounds.
The pair was donated to the Cohanzick Zoo by a North Carolina zoo in 2017.
