Will Smith’s beautiful mother Carolyn Smith is beaming with pride after her son scooped his very first Oscar on Sunday night for his incredible performance in King Richard.
Ms. Carolyn told ABC6:
I know how he works, how hard he works…
I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting.
When I heard the name, I was just, ‘Yes!’
During his acceptance speech, Will joked that his mother didn’t want to come to the Oscars because of her knitting crew.
But, Carolyn Smith was actually hosting an Oscars watch party at home with her family.
When asked about the shocking moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada’s hair.
She shared that she was completely surprised by it.
He is a very even, people person.
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen him go off.
First time in his lifetime…
I’ve never seen him do that.
Will’s young sister, Ellen Smith, can understand how or why he may have bubbled over.
I’ve had conversations with him, and it like really kind of broke my heart listening to the things he’s said he had to go through to get to where he is.
One thing is for certain, the Smith family is going to stick beside Will – good, bad, and ugly.
Ms. Carolyn said:
I am proud of him being him.

Congrats again to Will Smith on his Oscars win.
